Twitter network goes down Globally Resulting in Widespread outage

Twitter is a service for sharing small text messages, pictures and videos that has become an essential social media network for millions of people and companies worldwide. Last year it reported having 500 million users, 302 million of whom were active.

Twitter is down for the count at the moment, with the service apparently suffering widespread problems on both mobile and desktop. The company confirmed on its status blog at 03:44AM ET that "some users are currently experiencing problems accessing Twitter," and that it's "working towards a resolution."

Some mobile users are also unable to read or post tweets to the network, which has over 300 million active members.Twitter chose to communicate the problem via a tweet, in which the firm said it was aware of the problem.

The problems started at around 3:20am EST, with error messages claiming that the network is both “over capacity” and suffering an “internal error” both on desktop and mobile. Twitter confirmed the outage, even managing to tweet about the issue, and has been working to fix the problem.

However, the site’s service seems to be flickering on and off, with some users receiving the same service as ever, while others have had to... panic and do whatever you do when Twitter doesn’t work.

It's rare for Twitter to suffer a full outage, and no reason has been given for this latest blackout. The service also suffered a short outage yesterday. We'll keep this story updated as it develops.
