A panchayat in UP in a bizarre directive has asked an alleged rape victim to beat up the accused with shoes after he refused to pay the Rs 5 lakh fine imposed by it.
Two men had allegedly gangraped the girl in Todalpur village on December 19. The panchayat asked the accused to pay a fine Rs 5 lakh. When one of them refused to pay the money, the panchayat then asked the victim to smear his face with ink and beat him up with shoes as punishment.
As bizarre as it may sound, this is not the first time the such kangaroo courts have passed such dicta.Here are a few instances when the the law of the land was shown zero regard when it came to rape.

Recently eight policemen in Maharashtra forced a 13-year-old victim of multiple rapes to marry one of her rapists. The girl was raped in 2013, got pregnant and delivered the child of her rapist. The police officials are now facing a departmental probe.
