An anonymous letter purportedly signed by ISIS has threatened to kill Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.
Goa Police Reaction on the Issue:
The Goa Police have circulated this letter to all the police stations in the state and handed over the case to the Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS).
The letter is under investigation by the country’s Anti Terrorist Squad, the Press Trust of India (PTI) reported Tuesday.
Inspector General of Police V. Renganathan confirmed the contents of the letter, which he said was written in English, saying the postcard containing the threats to the two political leaders was posted locally.
We have taken the matter very seriously and the ATS as well as all the police stations of North Goa are presently probing into it”, Said Inspector General of Police V Ranganathan.
The letter, received at the state secretariat here on Thursday, was later handed over to the Anti-Terriost Squad and North Goa District Police.
Reason Behind Threat Letter to Modi:
The letter reportedly expressed anger over a ban against the slaughter of cows in the country — a ban that has been questioned by many after a Muslim man in a village in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh was beaten to death for eating beef. The majority of the country follows Hinduism, which considers cows as sacred.
Over the past few months, several people with suspected links to ISIS have been arrested from across the country. Last month, three men, suspected of joining ISIS, were arrested in the western state of Maharashtra.
