KOLKATA: A 14-year-old girl was gang-raped by two Army jawans in a military reserved coach on the Howrah-Amritsar Express on Sunday evening, after she was being compelled to consume alcohol by a third jawan. The girl was rescued from the bogie in a joint effort by RPF and GRP personnel at Madhupur station in Jharkhand.
The girl, a resident of Kolkata, boarded the Punjab-bound train at Howrah on Sunday but entered the coach reserved for army personnel by mistake. She was first forced to drink alcohol by a one jawan and then raped by two others, according to RPF sub-inspector P Jani.
The girl had run away from home on Sunday. Her family informed police who alerted the railways. The officials at Howrah station pulled off a near miracle — they identified the girl out of tens of thousands of faces captured on CCTV. She was spotted boarding the military coach of Amritsar Express that had left Howrah at 1.50pm.
By then the train had already crossed into Jharkhand. The DGP's Ranchi office was alerted and around 6 pm, GRP officials at Jasidih were faxed the girl's photograph and ordered to rescue her. Permission was sought from the railways to detain it for seven minutes at Madhupur where GRP and RPF personnel started a coach-by-coach search around 8pm.
"The military coach was locked from inside and after a bit of a 'struggle', the RPF and GRP men were able to gain access. The girl was found inside. She wasn't fully conscious and was being fed by Tripathi. Women constables helped the girl to the GRP station and Tripathi was taken into custody.
She identified the duo in a video footage of the coach taken at 11.15pm but when cops boarded the train at Sultanpur around noon on Monday to arrest them, they were nowhere to be found, he added
Another jawan, identified as Manjrish Tripathi, has been arrested as a suspected accomplice of the accused. The victim has said that Tripathi did not rape her but forced her to drink liquor after which the other two raped her.
The girl had been sent to a hospital for a medical test. The medical examination had confirmed rape.

It was a group of social workers that first noticed the girl being unconscious in the train at Madhupur. The Madhupur GRP quizzed the Army men aboard the train and arrested Mandrish Tripathi, a resident of Sultanpur in UP.
The police said the Dumdum girl, who had been insisting on meeting her Facebook friend from Ludhiana, had rebelled against family and left home to meet her friend without permission. The class nine girl had boarded the train at Howrah at 1.50 pm on Sunday. The victim told the police that she was raped six times after being threatened.
Our View on Sexual Harassment in India:
Being one of the only multi-cultural and diverse society in the world .It is shame of our social structure for what is happening to women in our country.It is depressing and disrupting of our norms and religions and defies all the prayers that are carried out worshiping the goddesses of Hindu religion .
Probably one of the worst scenarios where women are considered as the giver of life but still be treated as sexually satisfying object but nothing else.Its a nightmare for some and a question of life and death for some.
Out of all this, its questionable that our government is failing again and again over the time in preserving the rights for women in our country.Its not just the failure of the government but its a failure of the society on the whole
People failed to construct the government and government failed to keep the society in order instead dumping it into chaos , with corruption,ignorance,caste based votes,and dirty politics.
It is a serious issue to think , it might sound like a logical debate but it's more than that meets the eye.Because if that was not the case a 4 year old kid would not have gone through such unimaginable assault,not just this kid but there are thousands and millions of woman who undergo horrible and unbelievable sexual harassment knowingly or unknowingly.
After all she is just a giver of life, a mother , a daughter or a social representative the suppression is common and dominance over her is undeniable.
We have to reconsider preserving the rights for woman and seriously take an action to solve this problem .
