15 yr old gang rape comes to light after her aunt receives video clip via WhatsApp

Mumbai police have arrested four Class 10 students from northern suburb of Malad for the gang rape of a teenage girl who was also their classmate.

The gang rape of a 15-year-old Mumbai girl by her friend and three of his friends came to light on 25 November, after the victim's aunt received a video clip of the act on popular messaging app - WhatsApp.

According to media reports, the rape accused had used the same clip to threaten the victim into silence. However, they later shared it with their friends on WhatsApp, following which the video went viral, eventually reaching the girl's aunt.

The four suspects used the video clip of the incident to threaten the girl, NDTV, a local news network, reported. The suspects reportedly circulated the video to their friends on WhatsApp, a mobile messaging app, following which it went viral. The video eventually reached the girl’s aunt who informed the police about the incident.

When did the incident take place?

The sordid crime had taken place on 8 November, when the victim's friend had called her to his friend's house saying he needed help with studies.

After the girl had gone to the house, the four boys present there took turns raping her and recorded the entire incident on their mobile phones. According to the police, all the accused are between 15 and 16 years of age.

The accused threatened the victim that they would make the clip public if she revealed her ordeal to anyone. After the rape, one of the accused shared the video on WhatsApp, after which it went viral.

On 25 November, the victim's aunt was shocked to receive the same clip. She showed the clip to the girl, who broke down and narrated the ordeal to her.

"All four were produced before a juvenile court, after which they were sent to the Dongri correction home, where they will be questioned by a child welfare officer," a senior police official told NDTV.

The suspects have been booked under Section 376 (G) (gang rape) of the Indian Penal Code, as well as under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The incident is the latest in a string of episodes highlighting the rising violence against women in the country.

Our Opinion on Sexual Harassment in India:

Being one of the only multi-cultural and diverse society in the world .It is shame of our social structure for what is happening to women in our country. It is depressing and disrupting of our norms and religions and defies all the prayers that are carried out worshiping the goddesses of Hindu religion .

Probably one of the worst scenarios where women are considered as the giver of life but still be treated as sexually satisfying object but nothing else. Its a nightmare for some and a question of life and death for some.

Out of all this, its questionable that our government is failing again and again over the time in preserving the rights for women in our country. Its not just the failure of the government but its a failure of the society on the whole

People failed to construct the government and government failed to keep the society in order instead dumping it into chaos , with corruption, ignorance, caste based votes, and dirty politics.

It is a serious issue to think , it might sound like a logical debate but it's more than that meets the eye.Because if that was not the case a 4 year old kid would not have gone through such unimaginable assault, not just this kid but there are thousands and millions of woman who undergo horrible and unbelievable sexual harassment knowingly or unknowingly.

After all she is just a giver of life, a mother , a daughter or a social representative the suppression is common and dominance over her is undeniable.

We have to reconsider preserving the rights for woman and seriously take an action to solve this problem .

"CFSD" seriously condemns the harassment and sexual assaults on kids and women.
