Delhi Shame:Indian girls aged 2 and 5 Gang Raped in One Day

A week after the horrific rape and torture of a four-year-old girl in Delhi, two more cases of minor girls being gang-raped have been reported from the capital. Both the girls have suffered severe injuries and are recovering in hospital.

Two Indian girls aged two-and-a-half and five years old were raped in separate incidents in New Delhi overnight, with at least one confirmed as a gang rape, police said Saturday.

Two-and-a-half year old Raped:

"The first incident took place in west Delhi's Nangloi area on Friday evening when a two-and-a-half years old girl was abducted from near her home and gangraped by two men," he said.

The girl's mother has claimed that her daughter was abducted while she was watching a ramleela performance near her house. "My girl was watching ramleela when there was a power cut. That is when they kidnapped her," she said.

The victim was found lying bleeding and unconscious at a nearby park, the official said, adding she has been admitted to a government hospital where her condition is said to be serious.

Five year old Gang Raped:

The same day, a five-year-old was raped allegedly by three men in east Delhi's Anand Vihar area. The girl was reportedly alone at home when one of the accused, her neighbor, took her to his house and then allegedly raped her along with his friends.

“Her clothes were partially torn with blood spots all over them. Some locals saw her and she told them she was sexually assaulted,” an officer from Anand Vihar police station said on condition of anonymity.

Her neighbours saw her coming out of the accused's house and informed the police. "She was crying and her clothes were soaked with blood," one of them has told police. All three accused have been arrested.

Protests at Indian rape situation:

Indian teenagers have been taking part in a silent protest against the recent gang rapes and murder in Calcutta.

According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report, West Bengal accounted for 12.67 percent of the total crimes committed against women in the country while Calcutta ranked the third most unsafe metropolis for women, behind Delhi and Bangalore.

One incident of sexual assault and three cases of rape were reported in different parts of Dehli in the last twenty four hours.

India recorded 36,735 rape cases in 2014, with 2,096 of them in Delhi:

“When will Delhi wake up? Till when will girls continue to be brutalised in Indian capital. Gangrape of 2.5 year n 5 year old. Shameful,” Delhi Commission for Women chairwomen Swati Maliwal tweeted Saturday.

The incidents come one week after a four-year-old girl was allegedly raped and slashed with a blade before being abandoned by a railway track in the capital.

Police arrested a 25-year-old man over that attack, in which the young girl suffered severe internal injuries and had apparently been slashed with a sharp object.

The attacks add to a grim catalogue of sexual assaults in India, many of which have sparked domestic and international outrage.

The fatal gang rape of a young student on a bus in Delhi in 2012 led to an outpouring of anger over frightening levels of violence against women.
