SAY NO TO SUICIDE

India, country with second largest population in the world and with highest number of student strength in the world accounts to 315 millions. Indian student population itself makes another nation leading to a fourth largest country in the world. More the number of students in a nation more will be its development. But one of the major problems concerned to India is students’ suicides.

According to Wikipedia, annually 8, 00,000 members are committing suicides around the world, of them 1, 35,000 are from India i.e. 17.5% of total. Of the total suicides, 80% belong to student community. In India, Tamil Nadu tops the list with 12.5% and followed by Maharashtra and West Bengal with 11.9% and 11.0% respectively. Of the total youngsters committing suicides 80% are literates ironically which is more than the literacy percent of nation (74%).

The reasons for the students suicides are family problems and illness charting to 46% and some other reasons are love, drugs, politics, poverty, economic issues etc.

 The major reason behind the students’ suicides is due to the stress they develop in studies. Basically, even today in India parents force their children to study on their own wish regardless of the child’s interest. Every parent wants their child to be a topper, if all gets first then who will be the second. Parents should know their child’s interest and even they should allow their children to choose their own career. What if, sachin’s father didn't allow him to play cricket, would we have a cricketing legend like him. Can you imagine Indian cricket history without sachin..??

Parents should realize that studies are not only a way to settle down in life and every child does have his unique talent. They should back up the child in his/her bad times instead of scolding them; this will reduce their mental stress. The institutions must bring out the hidden talent behind the students and encourage them. This is the responsibility of all the parents and the teachers.

Students are thinking that suicide is the “permanent solution to the temporary problem”. This kind of ideology must be changed within the students and they should keep moving instead of stopping with failures…!!!

Conclusion: suicide is not the only solution to all problems, it’s just cowardice thing. No one can become great without facing problems in life.

Suicide is a crime.
