Understanding 26 January

26 Jan, 1995 was the day when we got Independence real sense. If I say 15 Aug is a date in history, then 26 Jan, is a history itself. It signifies the glory if independent India.

26 Jan is not merely about Republic Day parade or exhibition of power. It is a day that signifies the existence of democracy in India, it is a day that signifies the existence of secularism in India, it is a day that signifies the existence of rule of law in India. Again I will be cheating you if I call it merely a day, its the festival of empowerment of common people. The holy book of this festival, the constitution of India gives us the right to vote, which means right to be a part of 'Swaraj'.

When the nation saw grand old man Anna Hazare sitting on fast to bring out the spirit of Swaraj. when the nation saw seen human race at the top of its brutality in Nirbhaya case, critics said that the constitution has lots its significance and democracy has become a dream. But I don't believe in it and I just don't deny those arguments to keep them un-discussed on this sacred day . I deny those arguments because I feel it is not the constitution which has lost its significance, it is We who have lost our faith in constitution. I don't mean absence of problems, but the plants of problems can not be uprooted in one day.You don't see the marks of ropes over the brick near a well just in one day.
To overcome the darkness, we need to light the lamp continuously until there no trace of darkness is left out, and that is where we have failed.

Today the country is witnessing the beginning of one of the most significant phase of changes, post Independence. In spite of all the glitches, we have shown our faith in democracy by electing a full majority government.

Friends it happened for the first time in the history of independent India that it was not a Prime Minister speaking from Red Fort on 15 Aug, rather it was the Prime Servant who spoke. taking inspiration from that, let us take an oath today, the we will protect our constitution and continue the process of empowerment so that for the next time we don't need any Anna Hazare to sit on fast. so that for the next time we don't need to come out on roads to protest, so that for the next time we don't share the guilt of loosing of any Nirbhaya.
