WhatsApp users will no more have to worry about memory storage capacity of their smartphones as it has announced a back-up feature for Android platform that will help store chats and multimedia content in Google Drive.
From multiple group chats saturated with top notch, to work talk and general messages that have replaced the use of SMS, it's become a central hub in the way we communicate with people.
While you've been able to backup your messages to your local storage for some time now, an official cloud storage option has been sorely absent. Until now.
Android users can now officially setup their WhatsApp their app, to automatically back everything up to Google Drive.
Here's How U Can Backup In Google Drive:
1.Open WhatsApp.
2.Go to Menu Button > Settings > Chats and calls > Chat backup.
3.Tap on Back up to Google Drive.
4.Set the backup frequency to your liking.
To change to which account you want to back up your chat history:
1.Open WhatsApp.
2.Go to Menu Button > Settings > Chats and calls > Chat backup.
3.Tap on Account and select the account you wish to back up your chat history to.
Note: If you change your Google account, you will not be able to access your backups that are linked to a different Google account.
To change the connection you wish to use for backup:
1.Open WhatsApp.
2.Go to Menu Button > Settings > Chats and calls > Chat backup.
3.Tap on Back up over and select the network you wish to use for backup.
If you are unable to create a Google Drive backup, please try the following:
1.Verify that you have a Google account added to your phone.
2.Verify that you have enough available space in your Google Drive account to create a backup. You can see how much space is available on your Google Drive at the bottom left of your screen.
3.Verify that you have Google Play services installed on your phone. Note: Google Play services are only available on Android 2.3.4 and higher.
4.If you are attempting to back up on a cellular data network, make sure that you have data for both WhatsApp and Google Play services. Contact your provider if you are unsure.
5.Attempt to do a backup on a different network (for example, try connecting to Wi-Fi if you are unable to back up on a cellular network).
If you are unable to restore a Google Drive backup, please try the following:
1.Verify that you are attempting to restore data from the same phone number and Google account that the backup was created on.
2.Verify that there is enough room on your phone to restore the backup.
3.Verify that you have Google Play services installed in your phone. Note: Google Play services is only available on Android 2.3.4 and higher.
4.Make sure your battery is fully charged or your phone is plugged in to a power source.
5.Make sure your phone is connected to a strong and stable network. If restoring using cellular network does not work, please try Wi-Fi.
However, this update at present is not available in WhatsApp application for Android users in India.
WhatsApp did not respond to the query sent regarding the date when this feature will be available for Indian users.
The mobile instant messenger reported to have over 70 million monthly active users in India till November 2014.
In September, the company disclosed that it has 900 million active users globally.
