A trainee athlete committed suicide on Tuesday morning after she was denied keeping mobilephone in her hostel room. The incident took place in at the Wayanad District Sports Council centre in Kalpetta (Kerala) where the 17-year old athlete Resnamol K S hanged herself after her coach and mother scolded her for secretly keeping mobile phone in her hostel room. Trainees are not allowed to use cellphones at the hostel.
She sold her earrings for Rs 4,020, in order to buy the phone, but was reprimanded by her Coach as hostel rules didn’t permit her to use it.Resnamol hailed from Cherupuzha in the Kannur district and joined the sports hostel last year. She was undergoing training under the District sports council.

The triple jumper who had won a bronze medal at the national inter club championships sold her earrings for Rs 4,020, in order to buy the phone, but was barred by her Coach as hostel rules didn’t permit her to use it. Angry and saddened by the strict rules, she was found hanging inside her hostel at around 11 am on Tuesday. 
Her body has been sent to the Kozhikode Medical Hospital. According to Resnamol’s friends, her mother addressed her about the mobile phone on Monday, which she was very upset about. She had stayed back in her room as she didn’t have any classes on the day. 
District sports council Kalpetta sub Inspector Raman Unni said, “Resnamol’s coach Talib came to take down the attendance of all the students at around 11 am. He attempted to open the lock, but failed to do so. He informed the warden, once the door was opened, she was found hanging there.”
This is not the only story from SAI centres in kerala doing the rounds. This comes immediately after, a 16-year old national junior rowing champion committed suicide in Alapuzhai in May, this year. Earlier this month, two girls from the GV Raja Sports school had consumed poision as well. Three such incidents over the past year might just prompt the state government into inspecting the existent sports schools.
