The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)
confirmed on Sunday, that the suspended Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises,
Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, will not be facing termination and
are expected to make a comeback into the Indian Premier League after they
complete their two-year suspension period.
Following their Working Committee meeting in Mumbai, BCCI said that the
Board will now float tenders for two new franchises to take CSK and RR's place
for the ninth season of IPL.
"The Justice Lodha committee interim
report will be implemented fully. The two franchisee teams, Chennai Super Kings
and Rajasthan Royals remain suspended for two years. BCCI will float tenders
and invite bids for two new teams to replace CSK & RR in the Indian Premier
League for 2016 and 2017 (2 years), BCCI said in their press release.
However, the BCCI did not
clarify whether IPL will be a 10-team affair from 2018, when CSK and RR will
come back to the fold.
Apart from the IPL franchises, BCCI also managed
to draw general consensus on their next Annual General Meeting (AGM) which has
been scheduled for next month on 9 November.
The Board also said
it was also looking to revive the National Cricket Academy."As proposed by
the president, the revival of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) as the centre
of excellence is the top most priority of the BCCI. Board will look at the
lands offered by KIADB. Mr. MP Pandove (Chairman NCA), Mr. Rajeev Shukla, Mr.
Anirudh Chaudhry (Hon.Treasurer-BCCI) and Mr. Amitabh Choudhary (Joint
Secretary - BCCI) will inspect the lands offered by KIADB and finalise the deal
within one month."
VIVO replaces PepsiCo:
The board also replaced PepsiCo, with the
Chinese mobile company VIVO as title sponsors of the IPL for the next two
years.
”The
IPL title sponsorship right has been assigned to M/S Vivo mobiles. Vivo is to
give the Bank Guarantee in next ten days,” the BCCI said in a statement.
PepsiCo
became title sponsors of the IPL in 2013 after they bid a whopping Rs 396.8
crore for five seasons. Before Pepsi, DLF had paid Rs 200 crore to become title
sponsors of the tournament from 2008 till 2012.
Among
other decisions taken at the meeting, Nike was retained as the apparel sponsor
of the Indian cricket team. ”Nike Contract as the official apparel
sponsors of the Indian Cricket Team has been extended,” the BCCI said.
